The following six objectives are explored by Michael and Abbas in Goal 1: “A research agenda on locational information and the public interest”.
Summary
Objective 1: To develop a public interest technology framework applied to the GIS community
Objective 2: To understand the complex innovation ecosystem in location services and articulate example value chains for given service offerings ensuring stakeholder accountability
Objective 3: To include diverse stakeholders, e.g. citizens, in the design, development and delivery of location services through participatory design/ co-design/ and human-centered methodologies
Objective 4: To recognize the power of emerging and advanced technologies and their potential for dual-use application, especially geospatial AI (e.g. public safety versus commercial services)
Objective 5: To revisit and apply the various ‘veillances’ with respect to location information services in the public interest
Objective 6: To identify and elaborate on the present and future ethical, legal and social implications of GIS solutions, with a view to responsible research, innovation and socio-technical-environmental interventions
