New Measures Could Strengthen Australia's Cyber Security Reponse

Australia is set to appoint an expert to oversee the response to major cyber attacks and a ban on paying ransoms to hackers is also on the table.

The Prime Minister and Home Affairs Minister will host a cyber security roundtable in Sydney today.

Privacy and cybersecurity expert at the University of Wollongong, Associate Professor Katina Michael, told Millsy and Karl Australia’s standards of cybersecurity need to be raised in order to become ‘the most secure country in the world.’

“This is about destabilisation, it’s not about hacking into everyday Australian accounts and taking passports, license numbers and putting it on the dark web – it’s about unsettling security,” Ms Michael said.
