A post COVID-19 world will look contactless and cashless and will be focused on tagging, tracking and tracing in adaptive global supply chains, where the dynamic mobility of people, beyond goods and services, will be considered through a transparent blockchain. Beyond supply chains will be advanced knowledge of logical value chains and care chains granting greater control to outcomes with an emphasis on convenience. We have spoken in the past about disruptive technologies, but COVID19 was a disruptive event which outpaced technological responses in the medical field in particular: the need for better medical infrastructure highlighted, the need for more responsive pharmaceuticals (i.e. vaccine availability both now and into the future), the need for personal protective equipment and hygiene products (e.g. sanitizers and toilet paper). We have also seen the ongoing deployment of smart solutions for contact tracing and location tracking of humans that has acted to polarize society- on the one hand technology is liberating and will help us create collective awareness, and on the other hand manufactured consent which plays into an uberveillant society where identity, location and condition monitoring have negative repercussions on society in the way that people interact and how workplaces do business. COVID19 has demonstrated that remote learning is possible but is yet another push toward self-service modelling by government. Those with the ability and agility to adapt quickly will continue to make more money from post COVID ventures, and digital divides will continue to grow leaving those without the means to digitally transform, even further behind. COVID19 acted to shake up the world, and make us reflect on those things that are fundamental to human sustainability and wellbeing. This doesn’t mean that we won’t be focused efforts on technological breakthroughs but it will mean we go back and take a good look at Maslow’s hierarchy with technological development in mind.”
