RNSA08 was held in Canberra, ACT in 2008. I knew the workshop series was beginning to make an impact when I got a call from the Attorney-General's office requesting several copies of the proceedings. A great deal was being said about "evidence based policy" in 2009 and we managed to have some of Australia's leading voices contribute to this theme at the workshop.
The Second Workshop on the Social Implications of National Security was dedicated to the increased pervasiveness of surveillance technologies. Roger Clarke's "dataveillance" contribution was recognised along with MG Michael's "uberveillance" firmly taking root in the modern surveillance literature. The full proceedings are available for download. A selection of papers from this workshop were published in a special section by IEEE Technology and Society Magazine.
These were the first proceedings of our Social Implications of National Security workshop which MG Michael and I edited. A selection of papers from this workshop were published in Prometheus. The event was held at the University of Wollongong over two days.
